Default Points and job applications

HELP! I'm applying for a new job and it asks if I have any unspent convictions under the terms of the rehabilitation of offenders act 1974.

Do points for speeding count? In confused as I don't have to declare these to my current employer and they don't care. Don't want to F it up!

Depends on their point of view. My understanding is they still count if they are on your licence, so five years for most things, ten years for drink/dangerous driving and similar really bad stuff.

It was something I knew nothing whatsoever about, so did a quick google out of interest.
https://www.gov.uk/government/public...nders-act-1974

click on the pdf link for details, and it spells out the motoring offences stuff. I guess it depends how the prospective employer wants to treat stuff, but if they ask for the info they could be stroppy if you don't include it.

Might be better to declare it on the application.

Can't think a speeding fine & points is going to affect a job application unless it was a driving job

Cheers embee, did have a look at that but wasn't sure as the example given included additional stuff on top of the points.

Cheers

speeding fines and point are not a conviction unless you have been to court and been banned.

since it mentions rehabilitation of offenders i would presume that what they mean is have you a spent time in prison for murder etc.etc.

conviction
kənˈvɪkʃ(ə)n/Submit
noun
1.
a formal declaration by the verdict of a jury or the decision of a judge in a court of law that someone is guilty of a criminal offence.

I believe its a driving endorsement unless you go to court.

Penalty points and licence endorsed can count as convictions. Key here is they ask if they are "unspent". Under English and Welsh rehab of offenders penalty points become spent after 3 years and licence endorsed after 5 years. So if it was over 5 years ago then it's spent and you wont need to declare it.

Also as mentioned this would only cover actual convictions, not fixed penalties etc.
