Default Avon Storm 3D X-M

Anybody else used or using the Storm 3D X-M ?

Apparently designed for heavy more powerful sport bikes, but my K5 fully faired 'S' came fitted with a new set when I bought it a couple of months ago.

Certainly they feel really grippy in the dry, I'm too scared to push them in the wet.

I use my bike most days and have done just over 2500 miles on it. The tyres still look new with no squaring from commuting. Maybe I ride leaned over all the time ?

My only gripe with these tyres is I can feel a little squirming at times. When accelerating hard or braking hard it feels like the tyres are flexing a bit more than I'm used to. Pressures are 33psi front and 37psi rear which I think is the Suzuki recommended pressures.

Previously rode a K8 faired Bandit and never felt squirming, but then it had tyres made from Bakolite and I was scared to lean too far in case the bike weight pulled me over !!

Would I buy them when I'm due tyre replacement ?
Hard to say, but probably would.

Certainly when it's dry and warm the tyres feel great when doing country road strafing runs.
In the cold and wet, I take it easy, but not had any 'moments'.
So far they seem to be lasting very very well with no visible signs of wearing, but I think they may not be suited to the SV....or maybe my riding.

Well an update, now done about 4500miles on these tyres.

The squirming I mentioned before was cured by adjusting the rear preload and having new oil in the front forks, or at least, I don't notice it anymore !!

Done lots of wet and cold riding (it is Scotland !!!) and the tyres really have been good.

Only just started to notice a little wear on the rear tyre, so the claim they'll last 6,7, 8k miles seems to be true, for me at least.

I can't really compare them to other tyres as the bike came with these fitted.
My Bandit was on Angels and it didn't feel as secure on the road, but then, it was a heavier bike and certainly didn't turn in as fast as the SVs does.

Ok....update.....

I've done just over 12000 miles on these tyres now, mostly commuting on the M9.
I'm really impressed with how long they've lasted.

Maybe I ride too slow...who know's, but there's still a fair bit of life in these yet. They are starting to show signs of squaring though.

12,000 miles from a rear isn't bad at all.

My curvy came with them and I love 'em. I will replace with same. I find wet grip confidence inspiring and dry handling excellent with only the deepest ruts making the bike move much. once out of the rut, things calm down instantly.

Designed for heavier bikes you say? I really liked Avons, but found that the VFR ate Storm and Storm II tyres for breakfast, so went to Michelin. I may try these when current Michelins are done, I'll be due a full set.

Nice review, full life of tyres.

Looks like they are dual compound with high silica content in the rubber and have some tricks in the way the plys are woven.

Would be tempted to fit them when my stock Dunlop qualifiers wear out (could be a while, only done 2500 miles from new so far).
