carbs or not carbs?
hey all, i'm new to the whole SV game, im looking to get a 650 to use as a track bike, not looking to enter championships either its just to have a bit of fun, so theres carb models and injection models, i know there's less bhp to a carb model, but is there more you can do to a carb one than an injection model? is its a case of re-jetting the carbs?
any advice would be great |

Re: carbs or not carbs?
An injected bike can be set up on a dyno and have a custom map applied to it controlled by a computer to make sure it's making the most if it's induction, exhaust, fuel quality, etc, etc.
A carb has some screws and nozzles you can fiddle with. I'd go for FI every time. That being said, the SV650 is not a bike you buy and tune to produce more power. If you want more power, just buy more powerful bike. There's plenty about.

Re: carbs or not carbs?
Curvy power can be increased by fitting pointy cams & getting a modified woodruff key to advance the timing by 4 deg, that and a filter kit, plus a re- jet and maybe an exhaust can release some extra gee gees at minimal cost.
See Johnnyrods blog http://www.johnnyrod.co.uk/sv650.html You don't want to go too far without risking engine problems

Hardly worth the agro with the engine work, buy a curvy, carb model, stick some rubber on and enjoy. Spend your money on up grading the rear shock and the front end. Simples !
