I have a tin of solder flux in the garage. Time to experiment.

I tried the tin of flux that i had lying around for plumbing jobs, can't say i noticed much effect. I then bought some Harpic max power and that did a fantastic job. Barely any effort required.

It has to be an 'active' flux, some are just borax based in a grease, the more liquid ones (Frys etc) are acid based, and may even have been banned now due to 'helf and safetee' concerns.

Better to stick to Harpic max, which ain't been banned yet LOL

Have used Simoniz very high temperature paint aerosol can ( specified for manifolds and exhausts up to 800degC ) on a couple of bikes and it performed very well.

At the moment on my AL7 I have used it on silencer heatshield (the silver looked naff when the silencer was black, IMHO it looks a lot better now) and also on the exhaust pipes that run under the engine, they stood out like a sore thumb and blend in much better now they are black, I have not done the first 300mm or so of exhaust yet - maybe this year.

Acid based fluxes have been banned as if you don't clean the pipe out well enough you can end up with acid in your tea. That and if you don't clean out well enough it causes pin holes in your plumbing.

Life is too short for cleaning, just ride it.

Sure enough. But the by-product of cleaning is giving the bike a check over. You spot leaks or missing bolts etc.

Got any pictures of the results, before/after? Mine's rank, wouldn't mind doing it while I'm bolting in the Gixer front end
