RAF Leuchars to close

Well it is official and i have just been told that RAF leuchars is going to close. There are talks of the Army moving in on their return from Germany.

Just as well I only have a couple of years left and will be out before they shut the gates for good.

Now i have to decide if it is worth staying in the areas or moving away.

unless you want to work in a retail park m8 then you will have to move to where there are jobs. sad state of affairs with the base closing down.

there aint many jobs up here as you know. depends on your qualifications and if all the staff on the base are going to be made redundant at the same time, if they are then there will be a lot of competition for local jobs if most of them decide to stay in the area.

either way i'm gutted for ya.

The bigwigs have lost the feckin plot.

Stop chuckin bombs in Countries that have nothing to do with us and we'd be able to keep all our armed forces exactly where we need them... EMPLOYED

How will the squaddies and the students get on? Or do the Leuchars based folks tend to avoid St Andrews?

My bro does a lot of work there on the aircraft tugs, and other specialist machinery. Will miss the air shows there. Sad state of affairs for the area. Sad loss

i totally agree, also get this countries finances sorted before giving millions to foreign countries.

RAF folk do go into St A's so i am sure that the squaddies will do the same when they get here, shame so many of the students are so up their own backsides that they are difficult to pull (so i am told)

This year could be the last airshow which is a shame as it bring a hell of a lot of money in for charity. I'm due back from here a few days before this years show and if they think i am going to work it they can think again.

Now that is a good idea Darren. When all the aircraft have gone i may make enquiries to see if they could have a track day there. I am sure there would be a lot of interest from scottish bikers.
