Ammo box panniers on an SV?
I'm currently planning a trip through europe on my SV and I'm looking for storage options. I've seen ADV bikes use steel ammo boxes as panniers, and considering they're cheap and I don't mind getting my hands dirty - I thought perhaps I could chuck a pair on my SV.
Now I know they're heavy, and I know they won't look right on an SV but its more for functionality over looks. I'm just struggling on how I'm going to attach the boxes to the bike, i've seen a number of pictures of them attached to other bikes in a number of ways but does anybody have any ideas on how I could mount them? Cheers lads |

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
Well I'll be doing around 7000 miles in total, taking about a month. I haven't got a list of things to take, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need quite a bit of kit and hence storage room!

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
Not as much room in those ammo boxes as you'd think.

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
I'm just looking for cheap luggage storage I guess, soft luggage is an option - are the oxford ones worth the extra money or shall I just look for the cheapest (within reason) I can find?

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
I got a good set of Oxford Lifetime soft throw overs cheap off ebay and overloaded them for 4500 miles round Europe last year. Aside from burning the bottom on the exhaust (due to overloading ) all was good.

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
Step1: Look at prices of Kriega Equipment.
Step2: Go on Ebay and look at second hand Kriega Equpment. Step3: Realise that the resale value of Kriega stuff is high. Step4: Buy the Kriega Stuff you want, and sell it when you come back, it will have hardly cost you anything. Step5: Don't end up selling it and keep it because its so awesome. Kriega out performs, out lasts, and is so versatile, they have a 10 year warranty with anything you buy. And the customer service is awesome. |

Re: Ammo Box Panniers
I have some cheap soft oxford luggage you may be interested in, it's a bit tatty and it'd be only if you were local so you could come over and have a look. I was thinking of selling it anyway as my cb5x will be kitted out with hard luggage.
