Default Bike + Van = Funny youtube video and expensive repair

Righto folks, calling on your wisdom here

Got someone coming to collect the SV in a week or so, but they're bringing a van to take it away

I've never put a bike in a van before, and tbh I hate the idea of wheeling it up some narrow scaffold plank because i'm fairly certain i'll drop it...

It's tempting to wash my hands entirely of the process and say "what you do with the bike after the sale is up to you" but i'm a nice guy, the blokey is only bringing his missus to help and i don't want to see the new owner screwed over or my old bike on it's side in the gravel, so...

Any tips or tricks on getting it into the back of a transit? best idea so far i've had is to get two planks, walk up the left hand side one and run the bike up the other using gentle clutch control

Go against your instincts - do not offer any advice or help - cos if it goes wrong you will find yourself blamed.

Make sure he brings his own planks too.

How he takes it away is his problem, dont let it have the possibility of becoming yours.

the sterile indifference is strong in this one...

You're probably right, seems very cowardly to run with the money and hide inside twitching the curtains...

I'd be inclined to help, but I'd let him do the handlebar end of things. I.e he's in control of the direction of the bike, and working the brake lever, that way if he steers it off the plank or drops the bike, well then he cant really hold you responsible can he...

I'd help, but make it abundantly clear to him before you start that it is sold and he has to accept your help if he takes full responsability for what might happen.

I'd be careful about planks skidding left and right too. Maybe load it like this :

(yeah you knew that was coming )

I would try and get the bike as high as possible before loading it into the van.
My instinct would be to reverse the van up to the kerb or anything slightly higher to limit the angle of the ramp.HTH

Simple answer.

Meet him in your bike kit and after the items are exchanged, jump on the 675 and go for a ride

That way you wont get him knocking on your door for help either.
