Carb balance question-applying vacuum
Got kit, read destructions of 'how to' & manual says apply vacuum of between 1-2 psi on the pipe from the tank, this to open the fuel line.
In the haynes manual they show a pump kit to create this & open the line, any idea how I can do this without buying a the hand pump kit shown in the manual. Could I just such really hard? |

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
Tee the gauge into the vacuum line - then you don't have to disconnect the vaccum to the tap.

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
just nip the pipe with pliers or mole grips with the engine running before you take it off.

Or suck on the pipe.

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
I always tee into it, then it works the same as when then gauges aren't attached.

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
Have a look at this, might be of help
http://forum.svrider.com/showthread....rb+sync&page=2 I'd be looking into doing this myself. Got a question about this - can you just put a tee into the vacuum line and then the carbtune/manometer etc into there? I've been looking at the bluepoof site and she did a whole load of cutting the vaccuum line, fuel line etc and I've read somewhere else that all that's unnecessary... Sorry for the slight de-rail all |

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
If you want to, compared to just sucking on the vacuum pipe to get some fuel into the carbs every 20 seconds or so. Make sure you block off the free "middle T" of pipe when you are done, I have T fitting there anyway for scottoiler, but it's a PITA to get the scottoiler elbow off the T. The bluepoof site makes it needlessly complicated for no benefit that I can see. Put a bit of tube from front nipple to somewhere, block it with a bolt when not balancing carbs.

Re: Carb balance question-applying vacuum
I've got some spare bits of pipe (short ones) and the tee pieces, I just fit them while balancing and take them off afterwards.

I used part of a Carbtune hose which peeps out by the rad filler, blocked off with a self tapper when not in use. Using the rest of the Carbtune hose and an unaltered length means I have equal length hoses to both carbs. I also use the get it running and then clamp it off method of vacuum retention - only because I haven't got round to adding a T piece...
