Hammerite isn't ideal as it won't stick properly to bare aluminium, you'd need to use a primer first.

you can get the exhausts ceramic coated in a few different colours - including black ans silver - this coating also brings down the temp of the exhaust like the material wrap stuff does, so it will help your rear shock to keep its' damping better too!!

you can get a nice satin black high temp paint in brush pot ot spray can from Halfords, motorworld.
IMHO satin would look nicer than gloss.

Halfords do various brush on VHT paints too, if you just want to patch up, or M&P sell various engine colours...

Does anyone know of a good colour match for the dark grey of the '00 SV engine? I'm thinking the PJ1 Suzuki Grey epoxy 93-01 as sold by M&P sounds a likely match, but they don't have much detail on it... And the PJ1 website is an exercise in unhelpfulness

If you're after good quality exotic type etch primers and the like, you could try here
http://www.lasaero.com/las/900?cat=10

Not sure what colour the "lycoming grey" engine enamel is though, probably more grey than silver.

There's lots of other interesting stuff there too!

Read an article in a bike restoration type magazine where they recommended "Simoniz 5 Wheel" aerosol paint for engine cases, using an etch primer first.

Ooh, good link Embee.

AlanSV, still not tried it- might be putting in an order to them soon so I'll maybe pick up a tin.

Looks like I'll need to restore some of the paint on the front cyclinder. What's the difference between satin and gloss, and which one should I use? I'm guessing gloss, but not knowing how satin compares, I'd rather not chance it.

I found an interesting site on different paints though. Seemed to recommend Simoniz aswell.

One other thing, can you bake coatings on by running the engine?

Gloss is glossy. Satin has more of a satin finish.

I do apologise, I don't know what came over me. I'd use satin for the barrels myself.

Well who'd of thunk it?

I'd now tend to agree with the satin - browsing a few more articles, it seems most people have used a satin finish.
