Default Odd shocks

Running a hunch,

In theory one could fit a rear shock that was a little long or short then obtain the desired ride height by using longer or shorter dog bones,

What is the orgs views on this?

Default Re: Odd shocks

yes its what i have done. only problem is that the bones only come in 25mm, 40mm IIR.

lets be clear here. you cant use bones to alter the sag settings. bone measurements are at rear of bike not seat height. for instance 40mm bones will only give around 20mm at seat, to gain more you must lower/raise the front.

lowering/raising the height by using a shock is 1 to 1 so if the shock is 6mm taller you will raise the seat 6mm etc, etc.

TBH a few mm here and there is not going to make that much of a difference unless you can ride like rossi. taller rear will give quicker steering lower rear will give slower steering but one can always use a 70 profile tyre if the rear has been lifted. a 60 profile tyre is 60% of the width so 120x60 is 72mm tall divide that by 2 and you get 36mm. a120x70 is 70% of the width = 84 / 2 = 42mm so you gain 6mm in height at the front give or take depending on tyre manufacturer using a 70 profile.

there is a bit more to it that the above but is wayyyyy to complicated when you start to work out rake, trail, swingarm angle etc.etc
