Thanks for the pics and the info there. Definitely not touching my studs then. Great job on the ones you've done though!

My main issue again is the part of the engine that the stud goes into, it's heavily corroded and slowly falling apart. I've highlighted it using the picture you sent as it's more clear than mine

get a wire brush on the engine casing where the stud is held, it will tell you the true extent of any corrosion. where abouts in the UK are you ?

I sprayed my pipes black ( high temperature matt black paint ) on my AL7, never been too fussed about 'shiny pipes' - the black pipes actually blend into the bike quite well.

If you don't need to remove exhaust and it isn't blowing I would follow previous good advice and leave well alone.

Wire brush the loose stuff off and leave well alone unless you really need it off. gob everything in ACF50.

Biggest reason for needing to take pipes off is to remove swingarm to do bearings.

They fuse into the head. Nuts are a nightmare... Nibble the nuts off with a grinder and tap them round with a punch to save snapping the studs.
Exhaust will be seized into the head from galvanic corrosion between the steel and ally. Get a piece of wood against the exhaust and give it a good clout one way then the other to wobble it free.
