Default Swiss Alps

Last week I flew out to Zurich and hired a Ducati Monster and rode to Disentis in the Alps for 5 nights. I stayed at a great skiing complex with a really nice apartment - Catrina Resort.

Day 1 was getting from Zurich to Disentis. I was quite stressed and tired from the flight and everything and wasn't dressed appropriately for the heat, especially with my luggage to carry. Arrived about 6pm and relaxed in the pool. The pool was indoors but had an open wall which looked out onto the mountains, absolutely beautiful.

Day 2 I didn't venture too far and explored nearby.

The view from the balcony. The roar of the river across the road created a nice atmosphere.

As it was over 30 degrees, these things were very useful!

The monorail trains crisscross over or under the roads, disappear in tunnels then reappear. It was fun seeing where they would pop up next

There was still plenty of snow despite the temperature. It wasn't ice as I first thought. It was soft enough to make snowballs.

The evening haze was really beautiful

Day 3 - Furkapass

Being able to watch the sunrise over the mountains from bed was beautiful

The train bridging over a hairpin

Some of the drops were quite intimidating!

At the Furkapass

Gletsch

Grimsel Pass

It was tempting to jump in, it was so hot!

Looking over towards Grimsel Hospiz and the Dam

Lots of cars and bikes everywhere

Note the 3 bottles of water I bought from a sandwich van. It was meltingly hot

Lots of cool cars around

Susten Pass

There was an award winning pizza chef in the complex's restaurant. Delicious

Day 4

A thunderstorm was forecast for late afternoon, so I headed out early towards Acquarossa to explore some of the mountain roads.

The morning sun was stunning

I kept winding up the hairpin roads, thinking I'd find the highest house around this corner, surely! But they just keep going and going all the way up the mountain.

Look around video. And more cowbells

The higher I went, the more haze built up over the town below.

Back at the apartment, some nice Lotus' in the carpark.

Day 5
Another thunderstorm was forecast for late afternoon.
The last place on my list I wanted to visit was Klausen Pass.

Morning view

Unterschachen

Looking down over Unterschachen

Klausen Pass

I did a bit of exploring up this road. It takes you up the right side of the valley

Teufelsbrücke (Devil's Bridge)

Saw this nice SV1000 on the way back to the apartment

Made it back in time for the thunderstorm. So awesome to listen to

Day 6 was thankfully a lot cooler for the ride back to Zurich.

I went over Klausen Pass again, but it was thick fog from the rain. Not the best visibility! But it cleared up going downhill on the other side of the pass towards Glarus.
Returned the bike when the guy finally showed up! And got a taxi to the airport with 10 mins remaining before baggage checking closed! Stressful

I made this silly video on the flight home for something to do

All in all, an absolutely amazing trip. The best holiday I've ever been on. And I need to make a point to prioritise getting away every year, not every 5 years
Switzerland is a stunning place. I'd definitely go back again. If you are looking for a place to stay I highly recommend the apartment I stayed in. Not much more expensive than a hotel and has so much space, even a kitchen. On site restaurant, pool, gym and a CO-OP

Wow Darren, stunning scenery and fabulous pictures. You look to be having the time of your life there. I bet that Monster is a fun ride on those roads too!

Is this on top of a snow tunnel? Is there a track/road leading up there or was it a bit of an adventure?
