front sprocket size + dyno run?

what effect will a 14 instead of 15 tooth front sprocket have on a dyno run?

max torque output at slightly lower revs?

quicker torque rise?

My knowledge on this is sparce, but I think a smaller sprocket at the front means more grunt in the lower revs but you lose a bit of the top speed.

thats my understanding too, but i was wondering how this would effect a dyno run ( bit skint @ the mo)

It will not change the power output or where the power comes in. It will just do it quiker. It has no effect on the engine power at all, but in the final drive. Make sure that you tell whoever is doing the dyno that you have changed the final drive ratios, or you will get very misleading readings.

All it will do is make the power quicker. So for argument sake it made 60hp @ 6000 rpm in 9 seconds, it will be around a second or so quicker. These figures are for example sake.

Yhe sprocket itself, as i said elsewhere will make the bike pick up quicker, but you will be able to redline the bike in top, and loose aroundand indicate 10mph top end. The bike will also rev higher in top. So at the momnet on a 15t sprocket, the sv sits at 5k rpm @ 70mph or 7k @ 100mph (S gearing) This will raise nearly a 1000 rpm. So it will sit at about 8k at 100mph, which i found very annoying on the motorway!

i think i might miss the top end loss & dont like the sound of the bike reving that hard at top speeds

As i said before, if you do any continuous fast a road, or motorway type riding then its not the right thing to do. Round town, and blasts, its fine. Its always easy to swap back if you dont like it.

I do a lot of effectively motorway miles, the RPM difference I've seen is roughly 500rpm at 70mph. I can live with that.

I used to have a cruising speed of around 120 (you decide which scale!) whereas now it's more like 110.

I don't find that the bike ride's too high on revs, but then, neither do IL4s IMO.

Why is it not ok to do lots of motorway riding on a smaller front sprocket?
