Default Rear shock removal?

When im removing the rear shock can i just support the bike on a paddock stand or do i need to support the bike another way

No not a paddock stand, as you're compressing the suspension. If you managed to get a bolt out, the whole lot would collapse.

Sv Rich managed to do his with a pair of axle stands and some metel rod into the swingarm pivot, but an Abba stand (or similar) is safer

If you're careful you might get away with balancing it on a car jack. But I'd loosing the bolts first

If not hang the rear end with strops from a garage rafter, but make sure everything can take the strain!!!!!

You need to support the unsprung weight of the bike so an Abba stand or similar is wanted.

Just put two axel stands under the pillion footpegs

Im about to do the same thing and dont have an abba stand or joist in the garage so i was thinking of making an 'a' frame type thing out of wood to support the weight.

I'm personally just considering making some rope out of cotton and then tying it round my engine and onto the asbestos garage roof, lifting the whole bike off the ground and doing it whilst it's suspended.
