Re: good idea for cheap sleeping bag ??
BAAAAAAAAAD Idea , Europe may be warm in the day but temperatures will drop overnight , the foil cover will not protect you from winds and bad weather . Personally the bare minimum I would have is one of those orange survival bags you get from a mountaineering shop for about 5 quid and I would definately have a sleeping bag of sorts .
Having a bad nights sleep due to dropping temperatures will make you less alert the next day and may lead you to have an accident , sleeping bags can compress down to really small sizes nowadays and take up next to no room . Last edited by xXBADGERXx; 22-04-08 at 05:57 PM. |

Re: good idea for cheap sleeping bag ??
Personally I'd say go with a 'normal size' 2/3 season sleeping bag. I got a 1 season Vango thing last year that was only 15 quid and packs up so small it fit into my tankbag along with my wash kit and a few other bits n pieces, but on more than one occasion it was bloody freezing, even with an extra liner bag inside it. A lot of the larger ones will still pack down fairly small by using the straps on the outer bag.

You'll be buying a sleeping bag after the first night

Trust me , I`ve camped out in my local welsh hills many a time in my long years on this earth and some of them have been spent in conditions as low as -14 degrees .... please take a bag and a waterproof Survival cover for it , you can get them from most outdoors places and they are vital , bright Orange and waterproof , very handy thing to have .

On a similar note - get one of those camping micro-pillows - You can use a pile of clothes or whatever to make up the bulk of your 'pillow', but having one of those on top to rest you head on makes it about ten times as comfy. IMHO, you'll be pretty knackered from doing plenty of mileage while you're touring, don't skimp on getting a good night's sleep.
