Default Rear tyre.

I've got a sv 650 08 model and was wondering if I can put on a 180 size tire

Hiya LongNeck, here is a link to the thread that i started about the same subject. The guys were very helpful and in the end i decided to stay with the stock tyre size. Hope this link helps.

Why, it doesn't improve the handling....

as DD says why? i think a 180 if anything will make the bike worse as wheels are designed for certain size of tyres etc...

You can fit a 180 section rear if you want to. But the rim size isn't right for a 180 tyre, so it'll be too curved, if you get what I mean (rim width not wide enough). You'll probably suffer some handling woes (heavier steering) and might not ever loose those chicken strips (ego woes)

160 works well, I dont know if a 170 might be a half decent compromise?

You could always shove a bandit wheel with a 180 section tyre in there

180 will fit alright but doesn't look any better and makes the handling go a bit wierd. If you want to do it do it like billy did and put a bigger wheel on too.

'Pinched' is the word.

SV handles great with a 160, could possibly handle better with a smaller rear.

I was quite tempted to throw the old set of BT090's from my wifes bike[1] onto the spare SV wheels and give them ago but the rear was just too shot as to be worth it.

Yeah, I've seen SVs with 150s on the rear, never had a chance to ride one but it's interesting. Personally, my bike turns faster than I can turn it anyway so it doesn't make any difference
