170 rear tyre on SV
A mate is interested in fitting a 170 tyre on the rear of his SV, just wondering if the back wheel will safely take this size of tyre.
Cheers, P.B. |

Re: 170 rear tyre on SV
According to Avon their Azaro 170s are designed to go fine on a 4.5 rim... But that's the only one I'm aware of, even a 160's slightly pinched. But, you can easily fit a CBR or Bandit 12 wheel to carry a 170 or 180.

Yes, just like Billy predictably says

Re: 170 rear tyre on SV
nice back end billy. 1200 bandit rear (180) also fits newer models, just put 1 on my `06` although you have to change spacers and file a touch off of the inside of the caliper bracket otherwise it catches the disc

Re: 170 rear tyre on SV
I have a 170 on my '99. Can't say much about the handling, but I haven't had a problem. I also haven't had a 160 on there either as the 170 came on it brand new. I will probably be putting a 160 on it next since I have been told they handle better.

Re: 170 rear tyre on SV
I have a 170 section remould on the back of mine at the moment, no fitment problems but yes, it does make the handling a bit odd
If your mate is after a phat rear tyre then the 180 rear wheel is the way to go |

Re: 170 rear tyre on SV
I'm doing it because I have access to lots of 180 section part-worn treadeds, race wets and slicks for the track. The rear wheel I'm using is a Gixer 750L one, as is my spare front with turned down RF 900 discs.
