Default Floppy pillion pegs

Hi peeps, got a bit of an annoying problem with my pillion pegs, well just one actually. It's gone all floppy and wont stay up, it's bugging the hell out of me.

Bit of history to the problem. My bike was filthy dirty and I tried to lower the peg, it felt quite stiff which I put down to dirt, so gave it a bit of an extra push to fold the peg down, sprayed with some WD40 to loosen it, no the buggering thing flops all over the place.

Any ideas if I've managed to break anything? is there anything there to break?

This post is a quoters dream for smutty content

Look underneath the bracket, at the bottom end of the pivot pin there's a little clip shaped like a rounded 'E', which is called an 'E' clip, (you'd never guess would you?) carefully pry it off making sure:

A) It doesn't ping away into oblivion.

B) You don't stretch it open and later find it won't hold on when you want to put it back.

Take the pivot pin out, remove the footrest and you'll find that there is a small ball and a spring in a blind hole on the underside of the footrest, that clicks in and out of two shallow holes on a thin steel plate that's inside the bracket too.

You'll also find it's stuck.

Don't lose the little ball.

Or the spring.

When I last did this on the Bandit I found just the thing for getting the old ball bearing and spring out was a bit of heat. IIRC it had been in the oven at gas mark 5 (about 160degrees in new money) for about 10 minutes when mum asked when I'd be done as she'd just found it and was thinking about dinner (She's a star)

worth a shot if you can't get it free easily, worked a treat for me

BTW, when it comes out it'll be hot, watch you hands

Cheers for the tip Jambo, will have my oven mitts at the ready just in case.

I knew someone would make a smutty comment. But there really was no other way of describing it.

hall13uk - Cheers for the offer, will let you know if it's needed. (I'm a bit scared now )
