Awake at 2am.
Losing the Light.
This is a difficult time.... Hope fades with the disappearing light Of late October days. At dark time like these I find it best To go from the house and walk in hills and trees Where the chattering voices in my head Are stilled by the rustle of water and leaves. |

Re: Awake at 2am.
Nice poem, but a vexing subject matter - a very real phenomenon that can be hard to deal with. I've been finding it challenging to deal with myself.
I hope you're able to cope OK with the effects you feel.

Thanks Ruffy. As I say, the walking is a huge help, especially at this time of the year.

Re: Awake at 2am.
I have never understood people that like Autumn. To me it's the melancholy season of endings and no amount of pretty leaves will make me feel better, maybe it's because I was born in the Spring - the season of beginnings, fresh starts.
I now start to countdown to the Winter Solstice, get that over and look forward to longer days.

Re: Awake at 2am.
I like that, Gary. The clocks going back always does seem to be a cue for crap weather and that battening-down-the-hatches-for-winter feeling.
Just a week ago we had a bright late October day with the temperatures in the early teens, I got out on the bike and had a lovely ride through the Derbyshire Dales (and a play with a bloke on a Duc Monster). While riding I had the distinct feeling that it was the last warmish spin-out of the year. |
