Pillions getting on and off
Hi
My Wife rides pillion with me but struggles to get on and off the bike since somebody told her not to stand on the pillion pegs when doing so as they may snap. What do you reckon? Ever heard of this? She's not chunky either. Thanks |

Re: Pillions getting on and off
Sounds a little paranoid to me. Lissas been getting on the back using the pegs for years. No problem so far. Another tip is for the pillion to use the riders peg to mount if you are carrying a load on a rack or have panniers on.
Mind you I once broke the pillion footpeg casting on a mates Triumph Speed4 as I pulled the peg down. That was embarrassing. |

Re: Pillions getting on and off
Unless you have a chunky monkey jumping up and down on them they should be fine
They are designed to be stood up on while a pillion gets on / off, I've never had any problems and I've never heard of anyone else having problems. Cheers, Matt |

Re: Pillions getting on and off
Rofl The missus is about 4'10" (dependent on shoes) and really clambers about. I'm prettty sure she stands on the pegs, and when getting off ends up putting a hell of a lot more force through them as she kinda jumps off, Frankie Detori style

Re: Pillions getting on and off
im pretty sure theyll take far more load than a wee lassie................
never heard of any breaking, could if faulty i suppose, probably more load goes through them when going over bumps or braking hard than when clambering on off.................pretty sure if there was a prob, they have a "max loadXX" sticker or something,,,,,,,,,,, i used to be 23 stone and i stood on my pegs quite a lot,,,,,,,now im worried i may have been close to death........................ |

Re: Pillions getting on and off
My lad uses them to get on / off. He weighs around 12 stone plus kit. The technique I ask all my pillions to use is hand on my shoulder to steady/lift and foot on peg, leg over, both feet on pegs, sit down. Seems obvious, but lots of folks just plonk thier ass down and unsettle the bike.

Re: Pillions getting on and off
Pegs are fine to stand on, its what they are made for! If my pillions don't use the pegs it makes the bike wobble all over.

Re: Pillions getting on and off
I've taken everyone from 5'3" 7 stone girls to 6' 18 stone blokes and they've all clambered on using the pillion pegs. No problems so far, wouldn't worry about it.
