What's your price limit?
Not what you can afford but how much is too much?
I've just been looking at new toys and quite like the look of the new Speed Triple but at £11,300... way too much. In truth I love my Street and won't be changing it for quite a while, and even then unless something really good comes up it will be another Street, but paying over £10k for a bike... Are some bikes just getting way too expensive, or is it just coz I'm an old coffin dodger who's unwilling to spend that sort of money on a bike?

Re: What's your limit?
Agree with Preston I suppose about £5k but then again like you happy with what I have-------the one thing I would not do is incur debt to own a motorbike as for me it is a toy,be it a well used toy.
I say the above but if I was trading -in it would be the value of my current bike plus £5k Last edited by Dicky Ticker; 14-07-12 at 11:56 AM. |

Re: What's your limit?
I wouldn't have too much trouble spending five grand on a second-hand bike. But I wouldn't be comfortable spending twice that to get a new one.

Re: What's your limit?
I recently spent £1500 on a bike that is as fun to ride as any I've owned, I've had new before and no doubting it's nice to have shiny things, but the enjoyment of riding is more important, just for fun I spend £6-7k on petrol a year and would have it no other way.
Cheers Mark.

Re: What's your limit?
what ever i can afford at the time but £5k would be my limit even with finance. latest bike was 2850 +1000 on nice bits give or take and i cant see me changing that bike for a very long time and if i did it would be because it got stolen or crashed but i would get another and do the same.
my bike is a toy and stress relief and to be honest i'm happy if its got two wheels (no scooters) and when i'm to old to hold them up then it will be three wheels be it combination or trike. would i pay £10k plus on a bike. no. actually if i had lots of money and it was not a factor then i would not give a flying feck how much it cost as long as it was the bike i wanted. Re: What's your limit?
I thought the CBR600f was good value at £6500 new with 0% over 3 years. That was the max I wanted to spend on a bike given my finances and considering it's only a hobby only for me.
Bikes do seem relatively more expensive though, both new and 2nd hand ones. I sold my 3 years old GSXR750K6 for £4700 in 2009 (a k3 which would have been 6 years old was getting round £3k). There are K6's (6 years old!) now still going for £4500 with loads more miles on the clock, 3 years later! Its down the the new bike prices going up.

Re: What's your price limit?
I got a super good deal on my sprint, cost me £7500 brand new yet I'd seen used ones for same price and 1 year old ones for £7k, so in that respect it was a no brainer.
That said list price was £8599 but with £800 worth of triumph accessories, i didn't want them so negotiated them off the purchase price. I probably wouldn't have paid full list though. ATM, £10k would be my limit, but would have to be a top bike for that. Last edited by Specialone; 15-07-12 at 09:19 AM. |

Re: What's your price limit?
mines about 5k but i got my fz1 for £4250 for a 07 plate with 7.8k on the clock in mint condition so i don't see the point in spending double that for a new one, like has already been said let some one else take the hit
