Default New speed cameras on M4

Did anyone hear on the radio this morning about the new speed cameras on the M4 - given my paranoia re getting caught on M25 recently - thought it might be worth a mention.

They said that anyone doing 79+ mph would get fine and 3 points.

According to the local radio down that way they are apparently putting up camera's on most of the bridgets and intend to do anyone doing over the limit. Apparently they've already started and charged someone with SP30 doing 78mph.

... which apparently is a major accident black-spot anyway.

I must admit, on most of the M4 journies I've made Westwards... it's a very fast road!

Mainly due to patchy fog and ********s tailgatting each other while on the phone. The odd car doing 85 doesn't hurt (unless it's being tailgated of course). I prefer the A4 on the bike anyway.....

Talk about overkill with the whole "We will catch you, you know" thing.

popped out last night in g/f's cage and on radio news it was about the crackdown they are having. And about the camers being situated between J15 &17 but with the ability to catch you speeding from upto a half mile away

Anyone know if thats true?

Big Brother knows EVERYTHING.Catch you from half a mile- no problem. They will catch you using the sputnik hundreds of miles up in space soon. And dont they just love to rub it in with their "we are watching you"propaganda. What really worries me more than anything though is that we have all been conditioned to take it without serious dissent.Im no apologist for the French, but I do respect those who will riot in the streets when the government oversteps the mark, and i think the french would be unlikly to put up with the surveillance culture we now accept as normal.
Bring back Captain Gatso
Seriously though,it is true that the vast majority of Motorway crashes are caused by driving too close to the vehicle in front and/or inattention, and I am very confident that this enforcement policy will not do much for this.

I am really fed up with the Wiltshire "Safety" Partnership methods.
Here's my letter to the Assistant Chief Constable, Peter Vaughan who chairs the partnership, please feel free to email your views to him at peter.vaughan@wiltshire.pnn.police.uk

Quote:
Dear Peter,
As expected, neither the Council or Highways Authority have answered my
questions surrounding the complete lack of interest in exploring road
engineering solutions to reduce road accidents.
Whilst I have been waiting, your partnership strikes again by pursuing
it's absurdly fanatical mantra "reducing speed is the answer to reducing
road accidents".
Where will the partnership efforts end? Is the ultimate aim of the
partnership to be able to impose a 30mph speed camera trigger on all
roads in Wiltshire?

Can you please explain to me how the partnership came to the
unbelievably mind numbing decision, that by financially beating drivers
into observing 70mph on the M4, this will eliminate the major
contributory driving errors to accidents on the M4 namely:
a. people driving too close to the vehicle in front
b. stopping on the hard shoulder
c. overtaking without checking mirrors
d. failing to slow down for fog

I am just impressed that you were sufficiently career minded to order up
an unnamed spokeswoman to try to defend this latest speed camera farce,
instead of attempting to take responsibility yourself as Chairman of
what is now seen as the most fanatical revenue raising "road safety"
organisation in Britain.

You have only yourself to blame for receiving my emails as you have yet
to identify anyone who is willing to take responsibility for any
decisions made by the Partnership.

GO ON, he deserves to read your thoughts
