Stage 3 has bigger jets than the stage 1. I've never seen a stage 2.

Depended on manufacturer "kit" specs can be somewhat varied (also jet sizing), however generally the kits are made to suit various levels of tune and performance level required the higher the number the more radical the modification needed to match the complete breathing of the bike (full system/race filter Vs Slip-on OEM air filter).

Cheers Mark.

Stage 1 uses a K&N or BMC road filter and only breathes slightly better than standard but also gives you some options for adjusting to suit your aftermaket exhaust. Stage 3 ditches your air box and uses an individual pod filter on each carb: this gives maximum power but at the expense of flexibility/driveability. Stage 2 uses a BMC RS filter, or modified K&N (basically open topped with no snorkel) in the standard air box. This setup gives excellent midrange and a little more at the top end, especially with a good exhaust system. I have a factory pro stage 2 which I am very pleased with, but you can also get kits from Ivans and JHS.

Stage 2 kit I think you can only get through JHS racing - its made specially for them. I had one fitted to my last SV650 and it was very good. Only increased top-end power by couple of bhp, but gave me a massive increase in torque and power at low revs which was really noticeable. The best thing about it though is the noise - honestly it makes an SV sound like a 996 with a really loud 'honking' noise from about 3500rpm, then when you rev past 7000rpm it sounds like a ferrari! Only cost about £200 I think and that included dyno time to set it up. Well worth the money

Don't get too hung up on stage 1, 2, 3 etc, the definitions don't mean an awful lot. I mean, I have a DJ stage 3 kit fitted but it's now the exact spec of the JHS stage 2.

It's just the DJ stage 3 kit with a better filter (Race RS, which is what I use anyway) and different jets. Or was, when I last checked, which to be fair was in about 2004 My way of doing it was completely half-assed though, wish I'd just got the JHS kit or the Factory Pro one.
