grinding noise
my car has developed and grinding noise from the cambelt area and sounds as though a bearing is shot, question is i cant work out on what, water pump or pullys?
I've tried the old trick of poring water over the pulleys to see if they would quieten down but no luck anyone else got any sugestions? |

Re: grinding noise
What do the belts drive? Water pump, alternator? Are they too tight?

Re: grinding noise
I had this problem on a Vauxhall Agila and it was the water pump. Sorry if this is no help whatsoever...

Re: grinding noise
the whole shebang i cant pin point the noise exactly as its so loud, its been like it for a while but got louder all of a sudden last week end but still running sweet as a nut so im fairly sure its a shot bearing
i will be replacing the cambelt when replacing what ever it is that needs replacing, i fairly sure its the water pump as its common but would like to be sure than just guess the water trick is the only one i know Last edited by Wideboy; 06-08-09 at 12:41 PM. |

Re: grinding noise
Apparently if you hold a metal rod of some description against the suspect bit of engine, and the other end to your ear, you can work out where the noise is coming from. Just make sure you don't hold it near anything that might fire it through your skull!
