Default Anyone want to join me on a trip to London...from London?

Okay, I've been umming & arring about a trip recently. You know the thing - the weather's lousy & your job sucks and you want to a) make a clean break, b) do something more that a package holiday to Zante ;o)

So after loads of thought about possible journeys, trip of a life time etc I've got a, at present vague plan for the following:

London to Europe
Various places in Europe (not worked out yet - but to include Romania)
Ukraine to Russia (Volvograde)
Russia to Kazakhstan
Kazakstan to Mongolia via Russia
Mongolia up to Russia then
To Vladivostok - from there either:
flight to West Coast USA the ride to east coast & flight back to the UK
or,
bike in a crate & me on a plane back to UK from Russia.

My only stumbling block at present is stumping up enough cash but I'll be selling my work share options to get a 2004-ish bmw 650 dakar.

I'm speaking to a few mates that have done similar trips next week to figure out approx amounts for petrol, visa, carnet & bribes...but I plan to set off in late March/early April as according to the guidebooks I've been reading that'll be the optimum time for crossing both Kazakhstan (not too hot) & Siberia (not too cold). Kinda like Golidlocks's porridge.....!

4 Months - could be longer, could be less (unlikely)....

Any .orgers want to join me for all/some/a days ride on my journey?

More info - just respond or PM me.

I know where you're coming from on this one Dirk, and it sounds like a great trip!

Try the Horizons Unlimited website for good solid advice re riding in those areas, the time of year to go, gear, latest news on borders/visas, etc. There's also a section there for 'Travellers seeking other Travellers' if you'd like company en route and noone on the Org is mad enough to join you!

Good luck with this matey...

Not sure how relevant this is but...

We spent 4 months travelling around Europe in a motorhome last year...France, Spain, Portugal, S of France, Italy, ferry to Turkey, then back through Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary, Austria...etc..

Did 12000 miles, stayed in a campsite just about every night, didnt really skimp, went out for a meal every 2 weeks or so, most of the time just BBQing, including all ferries, tolls, campsite, spends, diesel avg 30mpg we spent 6k, including a 2 week holiday in Turkey, meeting up with family...

Now most of this isnt relevant however, just wanted to point out how easy it is to cross the borders in Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria etc...as long as you have the green card for insurance, its a piece of cake...there are odd costs at borders, but nothing major...

Romania incredible BTW...

Good luck!!
