Default HELP, won't restart!

HI peeps,
Got the bike to work this morning after competing with my first instance of carb icing (3000rpm tickover). As soon as I turned it off, I thought I'd try to restart it. No Joy! All the lights are on but the starter switch does nothing. I have bypassed the clutch switch, as that has given me trouble before. I seem to be able to turn the alarm/immobiliser on or off even with the ignition "on", does this have any relevancy to my problem?

All ideas appreciated!

EDIT: I've just been outside to check, and I can definitely turn the alarm "on" (Long indicator flash) or "off" (short flash) with the ignition in the on position. Also the alarm seems to have stopped working! Any ideas how (or if!) I can bypass the immobiliser to get it started? (Spyball Patriot) Will it possibly push-start? I just want to be able to get home

The bike's a 2001 SVS

Cheers,

Skeeter

Is the stand down? Just a thought!

Alternatively, let it thaw out a bit and try again later. Might just be so iced up it doesn't want to know!

Sounds like it might be the immobiliser. Have you tried switching alarm off and then immediately pressing the other button on the remote (the 'panic' one) which should disable the immobiliser. I've had a Spyball Patriot for 7 years on the Harley and never had any trouble with it.

Thanks Wyrdness, I'll give that a try.

Nope, not a peep, must be a different version of the alarm

At least you won't be needing to call the breakdown services out. The immobiliser disabling trick is useful when taking the bike in for a service, otherwise the immobiliser activates after about a minute, regardless of whether the alarm is on or not.

Don't worry, we've all been there. First time I couldn't start the bike it was
quite a shock (also left it in gear).

I spent an hour trying to find the problem before noticing that someone had flicked the killswitch.
We're all stupid sometimes.

I think everyone's first instinct is 'oh no, my baby is broken' when it is normally 'i've got the stand down/bike in gear/kill switch on'. I'm getting better at going through all these before panicking now, even then, i still miss one of them sometimes.
