Sometimes the most unorganised bike runs turn out just fine.

Bikenut (with the R1) and myself had planned to go to Ullapool a couple of Sundays ago. The weather was bloomin marvelous, too good to waste.

We were a bit late in leaving home so got to our first fuel stop in Lochcarron at 15:50. Quick ice-cream by the lochside then re-fill and off we go. Well, would have but they closed the pumps at 4pm while we ate them 20ft away. Thats the same shop we bought the ice-creams in, they might have warned us!

So, we cant make it to Ullapool now on half empty tanks. Two options - turn back home or make for Applecross with it's community run self service 24hr pump. Option 2, hell yeah!

As some on the .org will testify, the road to the top of the Bealach is an eye-opener. This is what greets you at the start...

Because of it's reputation as a "bucket list" must-do destination, you're always going to get a few fellow riders and petrolheads on this route. We were not, however, prepared for the almost continuous onslaught of what must have been the entire Alfa Romeo UK Owners club heading down as we fought our way up the hairpins. I kinda lost my rhythm in the twisties, too busy eyeing up some lovely Italian exotica whilst keeping one eye on the armco inches from my left kneeslider. I didn't manage to get any pics of them as once you start the climb you're committed til you reach the summit.

Once up there, chances are visibility on top (2000ft+) are nothing like those at the bottom when you set out at sea level. But we got lucky this time.

We could have been on Mars!

Yum..... Shiney shiney motorbike.

It's official - Iain made it to the top. I got photo's and everything!

What goes up.....

Once down the other side we filled our bellies with the most gorgeous 'pub grub' in the best location possible. Sitting outside Applecross Inn, pint in hand, looking back to the Cuillin ridge is just special. Do it.

We then took the coast road back, more stunning scenery there. There was a massive hill fire over in Torridon that day. It's not unusual to see in the highlands in early summer, but this was huge. We could see the whole moor on fire, and though we were 30miles away could smell the burning heather through our lids. We realised the extent of damage on the news when we got home, with villages evacuated for safety and many fire tenders called out.

On our return to Skye we were graced with this stunning sunset at the Skye Bridge. Great ride, great views, great times.

From across the the pond...

Despite it being the monsoon season here, I braved the rains on Sunday and rode to the mountains.
Mostly rode in the rain, fortunately the sun had popped out as I was on top of the mountains and I got to try out the camera on my new phone.

Clearing skies to the west of the mountains. (of course I live east of here)

Views from the mountain tops.

A lovely place to stop and take a break.
Can't see it in this pic but there is a stream located at the bottom of the ravine just behind the bike.
