HELP - Oil in unwanted places

I have a SV650S K3, restricted because of my licence.
When travelling for a long period of time (normally 2 hrs), the bike starts missing and losing power when I slow down. A similar thing happened and when I sent it in for repair they said oil came up through the air filter and got into the cylinders. Also the exhaust inside glows red.

I called around a few people and everyine said they had never heard of this happening.

Does anyone have any advice?

Well the oil into the airbox sounds like oil level too high, or really unluckily broken rings. How do you check your oil level.?

The glowing exhaust might be engine timing or a lean mixture.

I agree with Pete....

I check the oil level by sitting on the bike (cold) and getting someone to look at the oil level window. So far the oil level has been perfect on the full line.

Could the exhaust be glowing due to unburn fuel/air mixture and it lighting in exhaust?

Well if it's not burning an appreciable amount of oil then I'd be inclined to say that's not the main problem.

Some oil in the airbox is normal.

It could, but you would hear it.....

It sounds like it is running lean, strange it does it after some time.

A K3 is fuel injected right? If so then you may have an electrical fault with one (or both?) of the injectors that only shows itself after time....

If it is running lean perhaps it takes some time to heat up the pipes so it is only apparent on a long run.

Re the oil, Jonnierw, do you need to top it up at all?

might be worth getting a compression test done. If you have access to a tester its only a 15 minute check that will elliminate alot.

You can easily check the error codes with the tips found on this forum, you may be lucky and it will display an error code before a lengthy ride.

How much oil was in the airbox, every time I've opened one up it had a little oil in there, if it was a drop or two not much to worry about if there was loads then you'll need to work out why.

Also how was the restriction done ? Was it an ECU swap, or was it done another way ( is that possible on a pointy )

Are you still running the standard exhaust still or do you have an aftermarket one on there ?

I don't know for sure the amount of oil in the airbox but when it was fixed before they said there was a fair amount and the filter was soaked.

The oil level window still says I have a good level of oil in the engine so I don't think it needs topping-up.

K3 is first model with fuel injection. Injection system could be a problem, but wouldn't that appear soon after starting the bike even if its running lean?
Also on slowing down after the run the bike was back-firing very loudly.

Bike is stock, no mods at all, apart from crash bungs, Givi rack and top-box and alarm.

The restrictiong was done by putting restriction rings in the fuel/air line and a throttle twist-stop on the throttle.

I will look into the compression test.
