I am not doing huge mileage, so grippy particularly in the wet would be preferable even at the expense of mileage.

How about the Conti Road Attacks? either version 2 or 3?

I've not had the Michelin Pilot Road 5 but can say that for me the PR4 works very well on the SV. I've not taken the bike to a track so can't comment on their suitability for that. I imagine the PR5 offers similar or better than the PR4 for general road riding and touring.

I use Michelin Pilot Power 2CT's. Good price, grip is great in all weathers and wear is also good (I average about 10k on the rear).

Thanks folks, ended up with Road Pilot 4s fitted on Friday. Haven't had much of a chance to try them as I spent yesterday doing the annual service. They look much bigger than the Conti motions, perhaps just an illusion or the fact there wasn't much tread left on the old ones.

I had those on my SV and was very pleased with them. Gave me a lot more confidence in the wet than the Maxxis that were fitted before. The PR4 and the Road 5 are fairly generous with material and quite chunky when new.

That's good to hear getting my road 5 fitted to svthou though I've enjoyed the metzelers that are coming off but they are dead now.

Got PR5 on the SV and they're stunning. Front has done 13k mles and will need replacing after another 2-3k. Rear about 10k (before a puncture destroyed it) probably would have got another 2k from it. I ride all year and I presume wear in the wet is less than in the dry.

Got RoadAttack 3 on my GSXS 1000 and again stunning. No spinning up even with a reasonable amount of spirit in the cold and wet, would dearly love to report what they're like in the warm and dry!
