I understand timwilky's logic, I feel more vulnerable with my dull dark blue leather jacket compared to my yellow & blue textile jacket, but I am actually equally vulnerable whatever I am wearing.

Similarly my headlight comes on in daylight automatically now, but on previous bikes whenever I realised I'd forgotten to put my headlight on I used to think "phew I was lucky to get away with that", silly really.

The answer to your question is 'sometimes'

I put sometimes as I do when on my bicycle in the dark, or running in the dark.

Haven't done on the SV as most of my riding is day time/ fairweather riding for fun.

Don't agree there. Yes I do wear hi-vis, but still assume they haven't seen me.

I simply base my decision on what I experience when driving a car. There are 3 main things I find makes bikes more noticeable, (1) the obvious headlight, (2) white helmets are much more noticeable than other colours, (3) hi-vis is noticeable, especially in heavy motorway traffic and even more so in bad weather.

.........but each to their own.................

I wore mine over the winter commuting .

Now that I'm riding in the light don't wear Hi -Viz jacket as much , don't have a problem with what they look like , just that mine is a ex -police jacket & over normal jacket it is very warm , too warm for the current weather , might get a Hi -Viz vest for the summer.

Cheers Steve

Wear hiViz when
1. Journey will start or end in the dark
2. When its likly to rain, because the front of my jacket leaks and the HiVi gives some additional dry time.

I dont assume that it makes me more visiable, but it sure dont make me any less visiable.
