Default Rear Brake Caliper Compatibility

Hi all,

Just attempted to take my rear brake caliper off as it was squeaking and the whole thing is seized, completely fubar. The bolts snapped while we were taking it off and its just well, dead.

Anyways I'm off to the breakers tomorrow as I'm racing against time to be ready for AR.

So my question, will any other calipers fit or is it a specific part specifically for my SV?

Seen one on the bay for £35 second hand inc postage. Is that a decent price?

Its a 2000 naked curvy btw.

Cheers

Gordon

I think SRAD and busa are compatible, the busa definately uses the same disc. Also the bandits are worth a look. The suzuki caliper of this era looks pretty distinctive so if it looks right it'll probably fit.

Definately allow time to strip it and clean it though.

Why do you think yours with snapped bolts is beyond repair?

We've tried just about everything to get the bolts out and the whole thing is seized up and rusted to hell.

Drill them out, due to the shoulder on the bolt (the ones holding the caliper together) you'll have to drill a way but then you can split the caliper, and use a vice to get the drilled-off bolt out.

Will give it a go but I'm not hopeful that it can be saved, but we'll see.

agree with chris i recently did my rear caliper, changed pads and all the seals as they were seized and it made such a difference!!! got the seals from wemoto as they were much cheaper than suzuki.

Half the time you don't need seals, a bit of a crinkly dust seal won't do too much harm

You can run without dust seals just pack the recess with grease, mine have been like that for months, stripped them the other month the grease was dirty but the seals clean.

ill remember that this time round but the dust seals came with the main seals any way. got a rebuild kit from wemoto, them dust seals seem a bit of an after thought to me any way they seem very thin for some thing that is designed to keep the elements out? ?
