Default Re: Valve clearance service - pricing and where?

There's a really good garage near me in Wallasey called HondaTech, ask for Paul. Top bloke who will do a great job at a fair price.

Tell him Mike (Dave's son) sent you. If you decide to use him give me a shout and I'll get the kettle on.

PS, Thanks SV650Racer for your help last week

I've just been into my local spanner man for the same reason. Told him it needed a major service including the valves checking. He said about £250 depending what needs adjusting. Booked it in for after my trip to France on the bike

It sounds like the garage is charging you to change them, not check them.
Why, when people post asking civil questions, do they get aggressive answers like that?

By all means point out that it's a job that somebody with a modicum of mechanical knowledge, decent tools and a bit of spare time can do, but why should they have to justify it, if they want to give their hard earned to a garage or professional.

Not everybody has the inclination/time/confidence to mess with their bikes.

That didn't seem particularly aggressive for Tim, he's just a grumpy git

I wasn't offended in the least tbh, it's a fair point if you have the time and inclination but I don't.

Before I became a dad I used to spend hours in the garage - I spent a year fully restoring a 350 ypvs so I'm not shy at getting my hands dirty. It's just that I rely on using the bike daily and the fact that I can drop it off at the garage in the morning and pick it up in the afternoon with everything sorted is worth paying the extra doller imo.
