 On this day in 1874 Arthur Orton, who claimed to be the long lost heir to the wealthy Tichborne estate in Hampshire, was found guilty of perjury after a trial of 260 days, the longest trial in England. He was sentenced to 14 years’ hard labour, as the real Sir Roger Tichborne had perished at sea in 1853.

Thanks all. Still lurking here on occasion.
Having a great day so far. Mrs T took me out for lunch. Had a couple of pints of Heverlee so, you know how it is, you’ve then got to keep on it. Birthday gifts included 2 bottles of wine, 2 bottles of gin and 12 mixed cans of lager and IPA so I should be sorted. Day off tomorrow (off to Glasgow for more of the same). |
