Recommended garages, Hampshire?
I have just bought an SV650S, 2004, 17500, £1447
clean and tidy all over and as far as I can tell very sound apart from two declared issues that seller was up front about. It needs a new rear tire, rideable but marginally legal/illegal Chain has too much travel midway between the sprockets but LOOKS clean and sound as do the sprockets but I am no expert, may have reached the limit of its adjustment quoted £120ish for the tyre which seemed fine but £130 for sprockets and chain set from one dealer who said it might just need adjusting and £180 from another. Both garages failed to inspire me (for different reasons) One in particular (Mr £180) I felt was trying to scare me with stories of chains "snapping", does this happen, is it realistic? Can anyone recommend a good garage in Hampshire? This newbie would appreciate any recommendations and advice. I am not far from Aldershot. I just want someone who will give me a fair deal. cheers all Grant ps there's a pic on my profile that does not seem to be displaying in my avatar Last edited by sv650_1447; 18-02-11 at 09:06 PM. Re: Recommended garages
I don't have a whole host of experience but from what I have these guys have been great to deal with and have a good reputation. They might not be cheap but I think they're trustworthy and love their bikes. They're in Bordon, Hampshire.

Re: Recommended garages
£130 Sounds like a pretty good quote for fitting a new chain and sprocket set as far as im aware.

Re: Recommended garages, Hampshire?
Yes chains do snap, my svs chain snapped a few years ago when I was on the m6. Chain was fairly well looked after and also had a scottoiler but it was getting towards the end of it's life though.
Kitkat also had the chain snap on her Raptor, that chain hadn't been so well looked after and had a couple of tight spots. Rictus also had a chain snap on his triumph (I'm pretty sure it was a triumph) on a rideout. That the only time I've had a chain snap in 14 years of riding though.

Spannerman / stewarts motorcyles (same thing) all the way, about 30 secs from J1 of the M1 - i had a load of stuff done there recently. He also gives 10% off to forum members.

Re: Recommended garages, Hampshire?
You want good service and traditional service go to your haslemere motorcycles option, they have not been there for some years without reason, get a quote and ask questions about make supplied etc. Make sure you get a decent quality chain and not a cheapo - see the recent thread on the same topic on here. Good luck mate!
