I like the inbuilt meters. Along with the rest of the information in the viewfinder, it's what makes the camera what it is (or not) and part of the user experience. Match needle or flashing diodes - or the match the 2 needles on the Nikon FE.

After 2 dry moths and a day cooped up in the rain, I succumbed to gas today.

Gas eh? What did you indulge in? I've got a bid on a Minolta 58mm f1.4. Seen a Yashica Electro 35 on the bay. Worth it? Think the rf mirror has fallen off.

I must be mad. Went for this bundle.
The Electro 35 is another one I need to use. People tend to rave about it and the lens is supposed to be a cracker. Problem is, its big; pretty much SLR size and not something that slips into a pocket.

1940s day is next weekend - so is Open Farm Sunday, and also Tickhill castle (where I live, not in the castle) is open on Sunday, it's privately owned so only opens once a year. Not much left but it's Norman.
I like built-in meters too, for the same reason I like rangefinders - I'm basically a bit lazy and want to use some aids to cut down on the thinking about it. Without a meter I tend to meter at some point and set for hyperfocal shooting and a suitable speed, then change it later and focus at the time. I do like the in-finder displays as well - even my old Contessamat has a needle at the top and a Judas window so you can see the speed ring on the barrel. Maybe that's why I didn't get on so well with the Ensign! Which is now in China, was delivered about a week ago and so far silence, so it's looking more like a genuine purchase.

Another Minolta! I took a punt on the Electro, can always pop the top off and see what is going on. I haven't got anything against inbuilt meters, just as long as they are reading right. I don't have the right 1.3v battery for the OM1 so the meter would be off. Might have to try and get a Wein cell or maybe a hearing aid battery for it.

The Electro is easy enough to get into. Even I managed it to fix the pad of death issue. Maybe I should take a rangefinder abroad this year instead of an SLR and lenses.
There's a wein cell in the om1. See what it produces. I normally use the hearing aid batteries as mercury replacements. Cheap, and they have been fine in the old RFs I've used them in.
It's a Minolta bundle but it's not the camera I was after. Take a closer look at the lens just in front of it.

I can't zoom in, but is that a Rokkor 1.4? How much was the kit?

Yeah. It's a Rokkor 1.4 PG. Meant to be a real goodie. I hope it's in reasonable condition as that was the only photo. £40 plus post for the lot.
