OMO TTFN GTI FRIDAY: Recommend me a driving training school type thing
Not one of these experience days where you pay about £400 to drive a ferrari for 93 seconds, an actual proper training day either in your own car or the school cars with proper training..
I did an experience day a few years ago (about 6 years ago actually, fack me where does all the time go?) which involved driving a wrx sti impreza, a rally spec evo with anti-lag - both on tarmac with traffic cone track marked out, then a toyota celica type thing for handbrake turns on gravel, and a group-N rally prepped polo or 205 (can't remember which) on wet gravel. I was most looking forward to the impreza and evo, but ended up loving the group-n rally car the best as the instructor briefed about sorting out slides in a front wheel drive car (don't try and over-correct it or it will snap back and spin the other way, just point the wheels straight where you want the car to go and absolutely nail it to pull the car straight again). It turned out the instructor was a bit mad as on one of the sharp 90 degree turns he yanked the handbrake on without warning at around 25mph and started yelling and laughing while I spent about 5 seconds trying to sort it out. It was awesome. I've just picked up a saxo VTS for cheap which will be used as a trackcar and having watched some videos of saxo's at the 'ring and on various UK tracks, it seems they're more than happy to spin out when pushed a little too hard - probably down to their short wheelbase and 90/10 weight distribution, but also in the majority of cases more to do with driver error. Thinking a skid pan training day or driving school day would be good for if I ever find myself going sideways towards a crash barrier, fighting with the car to get it put right etc. - poor preparation preceding pish poor performance and all that Anyone know of such a place where you can do this sort of stuff? Or any good books/resources? Thanks in advance
