Default Fuel light won't stop flashing.

Well I came out of a shop and got on the SV, the fuel light started flashing almost immediately, it was over 110 miles so no big surprise, I then went and filled up, and when I started the fuel light was still flashing. I drove a couple of miles and it briefly stopped, but then I pulled alongside a Ducati on the hard shoulder to check he was ok (minor electrical problems). I didn't stop the engine and the fuel light started to flash again and proceeded to flash for the 7 miles home.

Any ideas why it won't turn off with a full tank of fuel? Is it goosed or just a gremlin in the works?

By the way it's an '01 curvy.

Cheers,

Tim

Electrical gremlin surplus, from the Duke, has unfortunately infiltrated your bike....i have little to suggest other than not getting them wet.

Maybe a short, if the red/black or the black/green wires have grounded out then that would cause it, and would also explain why it's intermittent.

The switch has 3 wires, when "on" the current is allowed to pass to earth, check for continuity between the 2 power wires and earth, if there is with a full tank then that would say to me that the sender unit has failed.

Not sure how they work, but this seems like the most sensible way.

You could also just unplug the sensor, if the light goes out then this would point to a fault on the sensor.

Cheers for the help, will give it a go tomorrow, just been out on the Helmsley TT in a bid to cure it, no effect as it's still flashing, but had fun.

Looks like a faulty sensor, bit annoying as I'm off Friday evening for two weeks, are well, will just have to use the trip meter and guess my fuel!

shouldn't be too hard to fit, if theres less than a gallon in the you should be able to turn the tank on its side so you don't have to drain it.

Remember to get a bit of PTFE tape for the threads

Well, it stopped flasshing at approx 110 miles, the started again at 130 miles, filled it up and it stopped flashing, so looks like it sorted itself out, or the gremlin has been sucked through and burnt

Well at that I'd guess the sensor works by floats and the top one got stuck, if it happens again then maybe try hit the sensor with something.

(percussive maintenence )
