We'll I'm no expert

What about a Honda Accord.

Our works diesel ones had big boots, comfy to drive, fast, handled well and were reliable. I wouldn't buy the diesel version for your mileage Tim.

I wouldn't buy another diesel, like the others have said they're too complicated these days & don't like short journeys.

You can't use the diesel minimum millage argument on a secondhand car unless you individually work the stats out on the specific car you've found and have a equally comparable car, as main contribution to the price difference was the overall purchase price and having it dealer serviced for the warranty.

VAG diesels are fine unless you go with the 170 bhp version. My 2.0 passat has done 80k in not even 3 years and has not had any issue - most collegues with the same car have had no issues either.

I would agree with looking at C Max etc - that sort of car is good but probably isn't as nice to drive, only driven them shorr distances personally so happy to be corrected!

Glad my step dad wasn't telling porkies about the impending Diesel costs from the looks of it!

My V40 has done 250, 000 and if they do get stupidly hi fuel duty. I'll run it on chip fat till it goes bang and just walk away, safe in the knowledge it owes me nothing.
Then get an electric leaf or something like.

You know you're getting old when you consider a Volvo.
