I invested in some when I first serviced my SV brakes probably 12 or so years ago. They were still in fine condition last brake pad change before crash last year. They don't seem to corrode.

Nice. I always fancied an Aprilia Shiva myself. Try a solvent like white spirit on the wheels. It's good at dissolving glue and grease.

Shiver would be the more sensible option for sure! Won't spirit remove more of the paint?

White spirit is fine on cured paint. Don't use it on fresh though. I've been cleaning my bikes for years with the stuff. Mainly to remove chain fling off the rear wheel and the rear of the bike. Just about any solvent will remove glue such as meths.
