tyre damaged caused by glass
Someone had smashed a bottle of glass which I rode across as did not see it ( un lit roads )
Checked tyre pressures today , all ok Span rear wheel noticed a large cut in the tyre As tyre is almost new has about 6mm of tread left . The cut is between midpoint and edge of tyre EDIT found this on the net A cut in excess of 25mm or 10% of the section width of the tyre , whichever is the greater, measured in any direction on the outside of the tyre and deep enough to reach the ply or cord would deem the tyre illegal. How do you check if its deep enough to reach ply or cord ? The cut in the tyre block and also goes across into the grove of the tyre , therefore total cut is approx a inch in length 25mm Will get the tyre checked however can't get off work till weekend Can you glue the split ??? Really don't want to have it changed yet as skint , but got a feeling I will have to Cheers Steve

Re: tyre damaged caused by glass
If it's not punctured then I wouldn't worry to much as the carcass is more than likely undamaged. The cut sounds like it's quite small, however if it gives you peace of mind it worth getting checked.

Re: tyre damaged caused by glass
The other weekend I pulled 6 things out of my back tyre, on of which was deep enough to get to the wire in the tyre. After a little bit of heat in the tyre you can't tell it was there.

Re: tyre damaged caused by glass
took bike to local garage that I trust
He checked the cut by opening ity up and shinning tourch down , could see metal wires . Cut is 23mm and would pass a MOT ( max is 25mm) however said that he recommended getting new tyre asap Bloody Typical
