Hi another question. What's the bike (SV naked version) like for putting up luggage and stuff? Does it fit a tent and sleeping bag?

No difference between the bikes in terms of luggage capacity (aside from being able to stow a couple of things behind the fairing on the faired one). With panniers, tailpack, tankbag and a rollmat and tent tied down with bungees you can fit loads on the bike. 2 up is a bit trickier, particularly if your pillion is female, as this will effectively quadruple the amount you are required to take, whilst at the same time, decreasing the luggage capacity by at least the tailpack, if not more. I'd advise against a big/heavy rucksack- extremely tiring on long rides. Putting one on the pillion can make the front a bit light, especially if you have got full panniers on too. I regularly go away for a week on business on mine with a laptop, bike cover and a week's worth of smart clothes in just a tankbag and tailpack. Rather than focusing on maximising the amount of luggage you can take, you should look at taking the minimum you can get by with:

I've had my naked SV fitted up with a pair of Oxford Sports panniers, an Oxford Sports tailpack with a Vango Gamma 250 tent and roll matt bungeed on as well. I kinda balanced it out by putting an Oxford Sports magnetic tankbag up front. Everything strapped down fine, but I tend to favour those self locking webbing straps rather than bungees to hold things on tight.

If you need those type of straps cheap, go see a Yamaha or Triumph dealer and have a quiet word with the service desk guy. The factories use them to strap the bikes into the crates and the dealers usually have more than too many kicking around after the bikes have been PDI'd. That's how I got hold of mine.

I found that a tailpack plus a rack (renntec do one for SVs) to strap your tent & roll mat to works well. That also leaves the tank free for a map pocket if you need one.

You can use panniers as well but IMO that starts to get heavy and disrupt a bike's handling too much. If you can get away without them that that would be better.

I have a naked and have ridden with Oxford Sports panniers and a tank bag with no problem at all. Best thing is to stick the tent over the back seat with bungees as they are often quite long.

If you're going solo, there are a couple of one (laughably two) man tents that are short enough to go across panniers - I've got a tech7 set (cheap from m&p), and a Vango alpha 200 tent and sleeping bag strap up together nicely as a block that comes off in one piece.

I'm also a bit soft, so I put an airbed in the tailpack too (a higear D battery-powered thing). Only problem is that theres barely any room for me and all the stuff in the tent.

Im Indoors used to carry a big top tent, panniers, sleeping bags, airbed and meeeee on the back of suzy. So you see theres plenty of room on an SV.


I lied about the big top, but its a four man. I however prefer tailpack,so theres not so much room for a tent. I still fit giant sleepbag behind it....its why I kept the grabrail to attach it to. We now spread our camping load between two bikes.

I can't quite see how a tailpack and a tent and sleeping bag would fit, but as I've used oxford panniers on my bike, plus tent, sleeping bag and airmat I know i won't need a tailpack on top. I have two tankbags and webbing stuff so can do that too. I just didn't think the pillion seat was that big. How you guys fit a pillion passenger amongst that luggage I don't know.
