Luggage tank/rear blankets - SV650.org

Can anyone recommend the so called "luggage blankets"? Going touring with soft luggage on the tank and rear this year, wondering if they help at all to stop marking the paintwork with bungees etc, or anyone used other ways to stop any marking?

yes it works a treat. You can get anti-slip mat from Lidl (or was it Aldi?) for about £2 which will be more than enough for panniers and tank-bag.

Claire just wrapped her pointy's back end in it...

+1. Get a big sheet and cut it to size. I have one that covers all the shiny paint on the back end of the bike, but is small/close fitting enought that it couldn't get caught up in the chain/wheel. Well worth it. I would recommend considering using two layers if you're going to have a plastic/metal hook (rather than just the bungee) against the bodywork anywhere.

I went to Focus (or similar) and bought a roll of the clear fablon stuff. Stick it all over where the luggage might rub.
The reason I did it this way was so the matting didn't move or flap about and that you can take the lugagge off an on quickly without faffing around making sure the matting is in place.
When you have finished your tour or whatever, just peel it off. Mine came off with no marks or sticky residue.

I used to use an old towel (insert revolting joke here), but my newer Oxford ones have a fabric panel on the back that doesn't seem to eat paint.
