Schoolboy error!!
Whilst changing the oil I've managed to overtighten the sump plug!
Already tried to bore out the hole, which has help, but there is still a tiny amount dripping out. Tiny, but after about a month its begining to make a noticable drain on the oil. I'm embarased enough about the whole ordeal, any sensible suggestions? |

Re: Schoolboy error!!
hmmm maybe you could get a nut welded over the existing hole and use a bolt and suitable rubber o-ring....?

Re: Schoolboy error!!
Get the front of the bike as high as possible, get some really sticky rocol cutting grease, gently drill out the old threads with liberal amounts of grease on drill bit (to catch the swarf), Tap the hole for a helicoil (again plenty of grease on tap), fit helicoil and get a grown up to fit the sump plug.......

Re: Schoolboy error!!
The cheap bodge?: Add another wide copper washer and gently torque up. Maybe a suitable spring washer if you're worried about it vibrating loose?

Re: Schoolboy error!!
Im sorry but considering the length of the sump plug and the depth of the threads in the cases, anyone who rips the threads out shouldn't be allowed a tool kit
You can still hit things pretty hard with a torque wrench |
