Default Newby suspension questions

Im new to setting up suspension prior to the SV i raced a cb500 which you just jumped on and went. I understand basic preload rebound etc but i want to check the front forks how would I know if it has uprated springs fitted?

Measure sag with and without rider. If it's right, you're good. The stock ones are as stiff as cooked spaghetti.

Lordy, I will be disagreed with! Around 15mm bike only and 25-30mm with rider are about right from memory. Wildly outside of this means the springs are too soft for you.

rear static is 5-10mm and rear rider is 30-35mm.

front static is 25-30mm and rider is 35-45mm. use a cable tie on one of the stanchions for testing, you are looking to use as much of the front fork travel as you can and leave around 15-20mm from the bottom.

once you have set your static and you find the rider figures are out you either need lighter of heavier springs.
