Default SATs innit

This was given more marks :

“Becoues he invented a lot of new rides he won a prize. He didn’t live with his mum he lived with his wife.”
Than this:

Quickly, it became apparent that Pip was a fantastic rider: a complete natural. But it was his love of horses that led to a tragic accident. An accident that would change his life forever.

In the recent Key Stage 3 SATs. Ignoring the fact that they're unequivocally miles apart in standard, unfairly marked, or even the absolute wonder how the Government pays an American company £33million a year to mark the buggers.... Can that first paragraph really be of a passing standard for an 11-year old?!

Well, I couldn't really make out what the first paragraph was going on about...

You can't pass kids for that, it'll just make them think its OK to use bad spelling, bad grammar and not make the effort to improve.

This post will now be quoted and amended for my poor spelling and grammar.

What were they marked on? When I was at school, they were only able to remove a certain number of marks for spelling/grammer/punctuation. Relevance of the passage has more weight than the content of it.

Is the content of a passage not tied to it's relevance or indeed, irrelevance
