Just a comment regarding whether to notify your own insurance company ,aren't you supposed to notify your insurance company whether the other person admits liabilty or not, or whatever the other person's insurance company might say ?!

You are. But if its only a small knock and the other party admits liability then I would not.
The son was on the receiving end of a hit and run, no witness could quote the number plate of the culprit car. If he had claimed then his premium on renewal would have gone up considerably so he paid to get it fixed. I think that's what a lot do.

do you have protected no claims? then all is well.

thats a good old shunt up the back in that video and i would be surprised if there was no damage.
I've read that they do (previously and again when checking - they also told me on the phone they do) it's all statistics, people involved in crashes (whether their fault or not) are more likely to be in crashes (I suppose often there's things people could have done to avoid the smash and if they're thick don't reflect on that...or just thick).
I'm now one of those people First ever car knock and I've done hundreds of thousands of miles.

It's not as much as you announcing you've had a claim previously but it does affect their price generation as I understand it.

I do, 10yr+ NCD protected - but not sure it eats in that anyway as she's admitted liability

Yeah, so they can jack up your price

I don't actually know if it's the law that you do, I doubt it.
But if you want to claim you have to notify them 'as soon as possible' which defined in my Ts & C's was up to 24 hours

Highway code rule 286 & RTA section 170

"if you do not give your name and address at the time of the collision, report it to the police as soon as reasonably practicable, and in any case within 24 hours."

It does also say you must report it to your insurance company, but that's not in bold.

After experiencing a work related dream where I was assisting in the arrest of someone, I fell out of bed, bashed my face on the bedside table and split my lip open.
Duvet cover covered in blood, and now a nice scab on my lip.
I can do without these kind of dreams

You paint quite a picture there Mav, as well as painting the duvet by the sounds of it...
