RIP John Surtees
Still the only man to have won a formula one championship and a motorcycle GP championship(or several actually)
Met him at Mallory park many years ago.A true legend.

Re: RIP John Surtees
Yes, no-one will ever again win the premier class on bikes and in cars. What's more, he did it in an era when racing truly was dicing with death.

Re: RIP John Surtees
An amazing achievement as you say. Such a lot of talent needed to get to the top in such different sports.

Re: RIP John Surtees
A great talent gone and in the interviews I've seen over the years a genuine bloke.

Re: RIP John Surtees
John Surtees got CBE and Joey Dunlop OBE and MBE but no knighthoods, those are restricted to 'respectable' people. John was a gentleman but obviously chose the wrong sport to excel in. If he had been a golfer, jockey or tennis player, run a failed bank (or even slipped Blair a few quid) he would have got a knighthood.
