Default Mac Book & Lemon Squash - OH NO!

Yep that's right Mrs.H managed to tip a cup of squash over the new mac book and the laptop just now.

I'm typing this on the windows laptop, which has a few issues, but will be fine in a while once the dampness goes.

As for the mac (which I only purchased so I could see our Mac users frustrations) it is totally fubar'd, and at only 6 weeks old too.

Nothing - won't even start.....have removed the hdd and the ram to let them air dry and see what gives but don't hold out much hope on this. I reckon the logic board will be fried.

So what to do? Take it to Apple store in Bluewater and plead ignorance?

No don't plead ignorance as its easy to tell if the board is fried by a liquid. Most should be OK as long as you let them dry, in a airing cupboard or something, wrapped in a towel, while removing what you can.
Sugary liquids are the worse, like cola, or beer, and I managed to pore beer on my work laptop. Lucky for me it started back up after a long drying session on a rad, having it stood on its side so anything could escape.

So its possible, worse case scenario, do you have house hold insurance?

Stick it in the airing cupboard and/or radiator, airing cupboard is best as it dries everything out. My old g4 powerbook's had much worse than that, beer, oj, coke, only issues is the esc and f1 keys. I dropped my new macbook 4 feet onto flat, music was a bit iffy, reformatted the drive and all is well. If you do get it working, then it's worth doing a reformat, disc might be a bit funny in places. Also, check your home insurance, it'll likely at the very least cover accidental damage to computers.

My little boy just tipped a cup of tea in my brand new laptop. I disassembled and dried it out completely and cleaned with pcb cleaner but it's still shagged. The computer is functioning if I use an external display and a USB keyboard but the display on the lappy is a glowing mess and the keyboard is not working correctly. A quick look about the net says that anything other than pure water means its ruined basically

House insurance is sorting out, excess will be £100 though.

Sticky keys will give it away.

Years ago, you could run warm water over a Mac keyboard, let it dry and it would be fine. I did this after many a coffee/beer spillage.

However- this means that you don't buy a new replacement keyboard. So they don't make them like that any more.

As for laptops- eek! An expensive lesson learned there!
