DIY Tyre change?

What tools do need to change tyres on the SV? I can get the wheels off, are tyre levers enough?

I never managed to break beads with a spade.
Mavic I don't think you are any heavier than me I'd love to see a vid of you showing how it is done!


I break beads off in vice, or with improvised lever and back bumper of van/bracket on garage wall.

Then tyre levers. Then blow back onto beads with compressor (foot pump can manage most if no compressor), pump up, balance on axle stands.

YC you're right, I'd just quoted what I'd seen in Practical Sports bike

Davy, you place the wheel on the wood & place the spade edge on the tyre bead and stand on it. But with my puny 66kgs, YC is probably ight

Could you not break the bead with 2 bits of wood and a G clamp?

You should probably pick more carefully where to repeat advice you haven't tried yourself, especially when the readers and writers are probably bearded 22 stone GSX1100 enthusiasts

or strong forearms for the twisting lol

Don't think he was 22 stone, more like 20.5

2 big tyre levers and 1 small one is my preffered way, I don't bother with rim protectors, if your carefull and firm you will manage to do it without making a mark on them. A valve removal screwdriver thingy, soap(or sepcial tyre swapping soap/lubrecant thingy) it's easiest with a tyre breaking tool, but a piece of wood and a hammer works. When it's on 'bounce' the tyre sp it sets on the sides before you put air into it, do it without replacing the valve, more flow in better chance it sets first time. Let air out, replace valve, refill.
Then your ready to balance it or deliver it to a tyre/bike/car workshop.
