points, date of offence or date of conviction?

I too have some points that are now out of date since 18/05/03 but am yet to send off for a new licence, clean. I have heard from a few people that you should check your licence very carefully (take a copy before sending!!!!!) when it arrives back because some have shown their bike entitlement removed and it is then a long winded process of YOU providing PROOF!! Rumour or not, better to be sure.
